The Drowned Crown

OXLUM is the rain that fell so long it stopped being weather and became a world. The storm did not pass. It settled, and the sea became home.

The towering stepped crown is not worn above the head. It is the water column closing over it. The two discs at the temples are the last two bubbles of air, and the calm face below them has already stopped fighting the flood.

Mythic Connection

Tlaloc, the Mexica lord of rain, shared the summit of the Templo Mayor with Huitzilopochtli and ruled Tlalocan, a paradise of endless water and green. Those who died by drowning were not burned but buried, because they were believed to go to him.
