The Cenote Gate
NAUYAR is inspired by the cenote: the open well, the round mouth in the earth where the underworld waters rise to meet the living. The great red ring is that mouth, the threshold seen from directly above; a circle of water you can look straight into and never see the bottom.
Everything below it, the fractured blocks and the descending shaft, is what waits past the surface. Signal red, deep blue and yellow on black mark the edge where the world above touches the world below.
Mythic Connection
For the Maya, cenotes were sacred openings into Xibalba, the underworld. Offerings were given to their still waters, because a cenote was never an end: it was a passage, the place where the living could reach what lies beneath.
The Gate of the Deep.
Of all the faces of the deep, NAUYAR is the one you enter through rather than sink into. It is the first step down.
